My Response

Bill Richardson needs to stop pushing this lie. Aaron's name had better not be used again in any way. Not mine either. A full written apology is due me for this. I tried to let you get out of this without going further, but now you have someone calling me a liar.

The check he speaks of was not $11,000. It was $12,000.00 and it was given me by the casualty officer from the U.S. Treasury. This check is issued for the troop whose checking account and other means are frozen until probate or whatever. This check was given me on the third day and then deposited. There was no check to show the governor by that time. The memorial was not until May 8, 2004. Richardson was not at the funeral, and again, the only time I spoke with the governor was on the phone when he offered his condolences and in the middle of the memorial when he gave me the flag.

Aaron had SGLI which comes from the life insurance company, not the treasury.

Yes, the increase came later, but Aaron has nothing to do with the National Guard.

The family was escorted in last. Everyone else was already seated, including Bill Richardson, who left in the middle of the ceremony while family members shared their thoughts and memories with the rest of those who attended.

It is a matter of public record that my son's funeral was in Amarillo on May 3, 2004. He was not there!

I have the memorial on tape.

Quit lying.

The above is the response I emailed to Mr. Shipley regarding the article linked in the post directly below this one. I also included a copy to the author who wrote the article so that she would know that I want the lies to stop. We’ve given enough.

Aaron’s family does not want his name used for ANY political purpose from here on out. That includes EVERY MEMBER OF BOTH SIDES OF AARON’S FAMILY! Not by Democrats, not by Republicans and not by reporters.

All money received by troops’ families is a matter of public knowledge or record. Aaron took out the full SGLI amount which was 250,000 at that time. Prudential had that check in my hands before the memorial service even took place. Now I ask you? Why on God’s green earth would I show the governor a check for $11,000.00 which NEVER existed in the first place??!!?

STOP AND DESIST! PLEASE!

Oh, De'on, I'm so sorry.

Politicians do insist on proving that they don't deserve any respect at all.

This is so sickening. I sat right behind you the whole time at the memorial service, and there are plenty of the rest of us that can attest that you did not have this stupid conversation with this idiot man. How dare he and his flunkies turn this lie around on Aaron's family. Good for you De'on, for standing up for yourself and Aaron against this type of "padding" for political gain. None of our troops or their families deserve to be used like this. One of his flunkies e-mailed you that the IMPORTANT thing is that Richardson got the government to issue more money, don't they get it that the IMPORTANT thing is that they LIED to do this! I just don't get the mindset of these people, Richardson should be apologizing and should be totally ashamed of himself for perpetuating this lie.
