Does anyone know who is behind this gun? (I don't, but someone might)

FALLUJAH, Iraq — Skirmishes broke out between U.S. Marines and Iraqi gunmen Monday as the Marines launched Operation Vigilant Resolve (search) in the volatile city in which four American civilians were slain last week in one of the more grisly displays of violence since the war began last year.

Explosions and gunfire were heard from the city — including a string of up to 30 blasts, apparently shelling, late Monday — as Marines met resistance while probing the outer neighborhoods of the city with reconnaissance missions.

At least one Iraqi gunman was killed in the exchanges. A U.S. Marine was killed in the area earlier Monday.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi judge issued an arrest warrant for a radical Shiite Muslim cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr (search), for the slaying of another Shiite leader shortly after the Iraq war began. Al-Sadr has called for revolt against coalition forces.

Pentagon officials also promised a strong response to this weekend's violence in the Shiite suburb of Sadr City (search) in Baghdad and in the city of Najaf (search), where eight Americans and one Salvadoran were killed.

Story continues here.

Quiz Q:

Was Operation Vigilant Resolve considered a success or a failure?

Hey mom, how are you? I was wanting to let you know that the Marine behind that gun in the middle pic, is Joshua Sandlin. Just thought I would let you know. He re-enlisted and is a Sergeant now.

Hi David! Great! I'm glad you're on. I'm going to put up others too.

Is Josh the one whose eyes always looked so full of tenderness--sometimes tears?

If he's in the luncheon pictures, point him out to me.

The one I'm thinking of I can never rememeber his name but I always like looking at his face.

Much love to you guys!

Operation Vigilant Resolve was deemed a failure. There was another push, Operation Phantom Fury that was more successful.

Tell you what mom, you send my a pic of the group of us, and of the one that you think he is and I'll photoshop it to show you who it is. As well, here is a better email to keep in touch with me, it's more professional, LOL.... davidbryant83@yahoo.com

P.S. please feel free to use that email at anytime for anything.

Much love.

Josh is the one with those "tender" eyes as you called them. He married Grace Josephsen (my best friend), you posted a pic of him at the luncheon sitting at a table next to Grace. He had a bald head at the time.

Yes. Lisa and I have talked about him several times. There was just something about him. It made us want to comfort him instead of the other way around. I think he maybe has the most honest eyes I've ever seen.

And I thought Grace was Lisa, so I titled it "the two Lisa's.

I saw Sandlin's name in one of Aaron's books that I gave to Tiff. It had several of their names, blood types, rounds given to them, that kind of thing. I gave it to her because he had her name all over it and their picture duct-taped (cammo, of course) in the back.
