China - U.S. Relations: Appearances are important if they are REAL, and can be backed up.

I am very, very tired of our Great Country taking the public abuse of lesser powers, like China and Russia (not to mention inferior powers like Iran and North Korea) ---- abuse in both word and deed. I guess the reason we do take the abuse is $$$$, and a government leadership of politically-correct diplomats.

We continue to appear to the world as weak, by our tepid, wimpy verbal and public responses to acts of hostility and aggression. These latest acts by China in refusing our Port Calls in Hong Kong are acts of hostility and aggression!

We need, as a people and as a country, to respond. Not by declaring war, but by boycotting Chinese products, as a government policy, and as individual acts of conscience.

To hell with Hong Kong. Let the Chinese lose the business of our Port Calls. We can go to Australia or Tokyo or Bangkok. To hell with their toxic toys and their bootlegged copies of our CD's and DVD's. To hell with their sweat shops.

Also, and just as important, it is time we as a Government talk tough to China and Russia (to bully Putin) behind the scenes (diplomacy), and in public. Then we will not appear to the world as weak. Why is that important? Because we are not weak! We are a mighty and strong country with the Puritan roots of moral strength and depth, crippled by left-wing fears and politically-correct bureaucrats! Unlike “Superman,” we do not have to disguise our identity as “Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter…” In fact, to make effective use of our power, we need to make known what we can do, and effectively implement what we say we can and will do.

Sometimes appearances, especially when they match reality, are very important. Our enemies, and our allies, need to get the real picture of our strength.

I couldn't agree more, Ray. And one finds "Made in China" everywhere. I'm guilty right now of having some Christmas gifts (unaware when I ordered) with this very label on it. Our country is flooded with their products.

Bullies don't understand anything but might, and sadly, a great part of the world is made up of not just bullies but terribly cruel and very smart people who would love to see our nation and its economy crater and many times we pander to this, both with and without ignorance!

Something needs to be done, that's for sure.

Thanks for sharing this with us and I know there's a great deal you can share like this from where you sit.

And as I think of it I become angrier. These are beautiful pieces from the Smithsonian. What really makes me angry is that these countries really do have such beautiful works of art and history to share, but alas, like our artistic geniuses in Hollywood, we are forced to do without that which we desire because of what? Exactly. "ME, me, me. Look at me. Have I got your attention yet?"

And as you point out, so much of the time we are like a wounded animal that comes back for more of the same. We are either too humble or too arrogant.

And too, we don't know, nor should we know, everything. We the little people, I mean. It is like the military. We know a small part. And as my wise mother has pointed out, our enemies become our friends for what is that, Mom? I remember the spirit of the saying, but not the little saying.

Compare it to US/Japan then and now and Sadaam who we put in and then took out.

I like how Tonya, my cousin, put it. "We put him in and we can take him out." She's Texas through and through and was patriotic from the womb!

We really shouldn't have to make excuses for what we do. We should and must do whatever it takes to save humankind from an enemy without any scruple of cruelty or self-destruction. We once again fight someone who will stop at absolutely nothing, one who despises us and would and has murdered us in the name of God. We are in a different part of the world, but I fear this war will spread. We, I fear, are going to have war on many fronts and now is the time to build and not tear down or diminish. It takes too long to rebuild and our leaders quibble.

Sorry if any type os--had meant to go to bed and couldn't go without coming back to this again. It bothers me.

Think I'll just stay up and wrap presents now. Haven't pulled an all-nighter in a while. Of course, sleeping 12 hours a day of late helps!

War is war and we must be smart and if possible make friends with those who would be our enemy or help us against a worse enemy at the time.

I believe it was a great student/teacher of war from CHINA that penned: KNOW YOUR ENEMY.
