Virgie Bell's View: Tarts and Tending

I don't think Katie Couric will ever get over the thrill of being referred to as a tart, but I mean, look at her. The last in the whole world person I would describe as a tart. When I think tart, I think Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner. Katie Couric? Katie Couric is to gums what Pelosi is to teeth. That is all you see. If you make it past the gummy smile, you then must wonder if it wasn’t the Easter Bunny. I know the feeling though. The wish to hold on to that image if at all possible for as long as possible. Tart calls up the image of snazzy. Just a little naughty with a little nice thrown in. Katie refers to herself as “This Tart.” That’s like Jay Leno referring to himself as “This Hunk.” It just does not compute.

I can remember back in the day when I was considered sort of a tart. Desired by the guys, watched that old envy roll off the girls. A Tart has power. I imagine Katie would trade a lifetime of Easters for one dark day as a Tart. Not happening, honey. Now on to the post of the day which I feel needs be addressed.

How wonderful it would be if I could go out in my community and take care of every problem that could be served by finance. If I could buy every poor child a toy and feed every family a delicious meal, then I could go to bed every night with the warm and cozies, alas, to my sorrow I can’t seem to care for much more than my little corner of the world. Our family can kind of pull together and take care of our basic needs and still be able to share gifts and a holiday feast.

We’ve all purchased a home on a city lot. The American Dream, the “chicken in every pot.” Now it takes most of what we have to buy fertilizer, paint, lawn mowers, everything it takes to do our part as good stewards of this earth, our community, and to be good fellow citizens of this planet. We pay taxes in order to support our schools, pay for road work and the general upkeep of our community. When things like Katrina hit we give what we can, but it’s a small amount, no matter how you look at it. We have our own little church groups that get together in fellowship halls and collect food for the unfortunates of our little town. We try our very best to help in some small way to send to what we feel is our responsibility.

I received a very small oil dividend from an oil well that belonged to my grandmother which I give to my granddaughter as a little something for going off to college. I’ve never used these checks for my own personal use. I bought a little heater for our fishpond so that I could take care of the fish I am in charge of. Other than that, it’s all gone to a very small savings. The greatest gift I have ever given this world is that of my being a responsible person in seeing that I pay my bills and take care that I do not become a burden to those who share my ideals.

When we get together around this time of year we decide what part of the food we will bring for Thanksgiving and inquire as to what gift we will get each other for a Christmas gift. Not lavish things. We are not of the set that can have lavish dreams. Hopefully Kayla will be able to get a scholarship in dance and her savings will be able to help furnish her dorm room and buy some clothes for her new life. We spend more on her and my great grand-son that anyone else. We got her a cedar chest for Christmas, a silver bracelet, and something like that for this Christmas. We will get Weston boots because he loves boots, and I want to see that he receives a good pair. I believe that is my right and it will also help Santa fill his stocking up a little more.

I want it fair and equitable to everyone who comes into this country but I do not want to have just one race of 12,000,000 people come here just because they are treated poorly by their own government. I do not want to deprive those others who come from a far away land that want to become member of this society. I do not want party politics to benefit from a vote that was stacked against the other party and done so unfairly. Nancy Pelosi has managed to get an extra 300,000 votes by this means and now she wants me and mine and others to provide the essentials for them to live in San Francisco. The schools in that area do not have anyone to represent our military in recruitment for service to our country. Our military is not welcomed in her district, and I for one do not want one dime to go to her little voting fraud she perpetrates on her district. I stay busy trying to keep the government in my own state on the up and up.

Of course we have our own street people, meth labs, as well as the sick and elderly who need any extra taxes that we can get together. These are ours to take care of as a human being who cares. I do not begrudge it. The President of Old Mexico said that I and others like me are being mean and hateful because we do not want to be responsible for what is surely their own country's responsibility. I cannot help that. I cannot take away from what I know is my duty as a citizen of this country in order to take care of some foreign country. I have never relied on other countries to do jobs that my fellow citizens will not do for the simple reason that I’ve never found any jobs my fellow citizens refused to do. I have a girl who comes in once a week to clean. She is a lovely girl and a very deserving girl. She is also very smart and has thus far paid for her own expensive braces, a second-hand car, and she pays her own way to attend the local junior college. De'on uses her every other week. We pay her as much money as any job here in town. Her schedule is such that it is flexible for her and for us. She has a trip coming up to our nation’s capital in which she has to have a certain amount of money in by the middle of the month. We are helping her to do this by giving her extra jobs that we would put off for a little longer as Christmas cuts into our budgets. This then is an example of an American Dream as played out by an American family. Multiply that a million times over and you have an example of my country.

Let us take care to see that we can be fair to other immigrants, but calling me and those millions just like me mean and hateful? No. No, we are just trying to see to the welfare of our country as best we can, just as the President of Mexico should be doing. We have our hands very full with just that, and we can do nothing more.

SUPPORT THE TROOPS!
