History Briefs

Bet you didn't believe me, huh? It has taken me this long so please, somebody read it!
I thought this was a great 'blast from the past' and actually, it's quite educational.
I'm pretty certain that "Disney" has gotten a little bit dizzy thru the years. Big business has become so politically correct and no doubt Disney tops the list.
I've also heard differing stories on Walt Disney. One was that he was not accepted for military service; the other that he received a Less Than Honorable Discharge, (or something like that, b/c he couldn't conform) but I didn't see any articles on that. I could have sworn I learned that on the Biography Channel years ago, but I must have dreamed that up.
One thing's for sure, Disney himself had talent and imagination.
Regardless, I've been wanting to do this WWII brief for quiet sometime, but I knew it would take a lot of time at the scanner, which I've come to dread ... it's so boring to scan.
At least with copy and paste, one sorta feels as though they're knitting or weaving, something repetitious but not noisy! YES, I'M A REAL DRAG, BUT I HOPE YOU GET SOMETHING OUT OF IT!
SEMPER FI,
DE'ON
PS I KNOW YOU'RE ALL BEDDY-BYE RIGHT NOW, BUT YOU'LL HAVE A NICE MORNING EDITION WHEN YOU WAKE UP!! sweet dreams ... ssshhh, they're all asleep here too. I love it.
pss. whY WoN't thIs pOst PAd makE ParAgRaphS?

I just did a search on Disney bio... did find that he was too young in WWI, but got his mother to lie for him and he joined the Red Cross and drove ambulances in Europe.

He was born in 1901, which would have made him 'too old' to be in the military in WWII.

My favorite Disney story - when Khrushchev came to America, one of the things he wanted to do was go to Disneyland, and Walt Disney said, NO - this is about freedom, you can't come in. It was a big international problem at the time, but Walt never backed down.

Well, I'm back for the 2nd go round on trying to leave this comment. I had a nice book going when the Internet went down, but anyway, the brunt of it was this: I really appreciate you looking this up. When I was working on LT Rich's stuff, I came across quite a bit on Disney on his war efforts/business. It all seemed impressive, but the one little erroneous piece of info nagged at me.

I'm glad to know that one of my heroes wanted to get in and true to life, was blocked for some reason, perhaps so that he could in the end do so much more with the talent God had embedded within the brilliant man.

Thanks Flag Gazer!

And thanks, Walt Disney!!
