Marine Moms Online continues

Why Does My Son Want to be A Marine?

The reasons why some young Americans have chosen to become
United States Marines
As told by their mothers, fathers, wives, and other loved ones

…There is no way for me or anyone else to say why your son joined the Marines. But I am very proud of him for doing it. Our son joined right out of high school, and believe me it was the best thing that he could have done. So walk with you head held high, you are going to be a Marine Mom

…When my son joined, he was a junior in high school in the Air Force JROTC. I asked him why the Marines, he smiled and said, “Mom, when we had armed forces night at school I went from table to table, got all the information they had to offer, talked to them, and when I got to the Marines, they told me to drop and give them 50. They are the only ones who challenged me. My second son got a call from the Air Force (also JROTC cadet). He called the Marines. They helped him get the extra point to become a MP. From what I can gather, the Marines are a closer knit group, they are truly brothers and look out for each other. I gave up trying to figure out why my boys do what they do. I have enough grey hair.

… WHY???? Who knows??? Some guys just have that need.

…I think it's the way you raised him..... Thank you!

When does the pride over shadow the fear?

…The pride will come when you see him graduate boot camp. It will be the most moving experience in your life and you will see what the Marine Corps does … takes a boy and makes a confident man out of him. And you have to remember that there are many dangerous careers out there... secret service, FBI, firemen, police, etc. Our sons just have a riskier occupation, so we pray more. Take heart, he is a healthy, good-willed individual with a loving family… support him all the way and be proud to merit the honor of being a Marine Mom...ALWAYS FAITHFUL!

…When we have children we wonder if we will be good moms. As our children, grow we worry and fear for them… will they hit their mouth on the table while they are standing there. It works this way their whole life. It's a parent thing. You will always have pride and fear for your kids.

…The day you see him walking across that parade deck will be one of your proudest moments of your life as a parent, if not your proudest. You learn to cope with all of this and accept it as time goes by. Once this all sinks in and you start living the military life you are going to be thankful that your son opened your eyes to what all the military does for us and gives up for us. You will be so proud when you tell others your son is in the Marine Corps. You will look at our flag and see it in a completely different way. You will stand taller for the National Anthem or the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thanks again, Diane!
