Writings and musings on the eccentric beauty of sacrifice. Come journey and write with us. We are family and friends resolved to capture something positive in a troubled world and laugh when we can along the way. This, then, is dedicated in Loving Memory to LCpl. Aaron C. Austin, USMC KIA Fallujah, Iraq on April 26, 2004. Rock On...

Hi De'on,
It's been a while since I've been here to read. That is so neat that you kept a diary during shock & Awe. I'm going to have to come here more often to keep up on this blog. I also read the letter from Cruz, he's quite the writer as well! I also enjoyed the post from your sister about Norma Jean.
Hey Sweetie, yes I kept a diary and everything else. I had actually given it to Aaron along with a scrapbook, magazines, newspapers.... I'm glad I got it back. It's all so precious.
When Aaron left, I was by each and every newscast I could find, and I was so very lost his first time out. He was part of 15th MEU at the time, but it took me quite a while to figure that out. Actually, how I traced it was by the FPO zip code, but until I heard from him, I had no idea where he was or who he was with. The 15th MEU served under British command around Basra.
I was going to school full time and had no Internet service at my apartment there in Lubbock. Heck, I went a long time before I even got a cell, so communication was very limited. I would spend hours at Tech in the library, searching for anything I could get.
Aaron's emails ended once the ship made it to their final destination, so it was over three weeks before I got any mail from the Middle East.
I was up every morning well before class to listen to the briefing on FOX.
I was actually more scared the first time out than the second... until Al Anbar began to live in the news after that fateful March 31, 2004 horrifying day. We then saw our contractors strung up, bodies desecrated for all the world to see...
I shouldn't start. But VB is my Mom. Lisa is my sister. I may hang up a list of characters! lol!
Cruz: A definite writer. I encourage him in that ... but think the birds and the bees and the love and the trees and the moon up above and a thing called love has him totally captivated right now.;)
