Looking back, I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I just assumed that for someone to succeed, to become the very top echelon in the government of my country, they were just, well, you know sort of special. Heck, I never considered myself to be competent enough to be president of the local PTA. In the many small towns of West Texas, there are really good people to serve on and lead various clubs and organizations. It just stood to reason that the further up the food chain you went, the more dedication and loyalty you would encounter. Unless it is a family thing passed on to a relative, it just makes sense. Oh, you expect dear old dad or granddad to be more or less blind to the fact that Jr. is a no good drinking woman chaser that gambles away every dime he gets his hand on. That is something we have all seen, the family fortune gone in a couple of years by the children who were clueless and went broke in a couple of years. That is different though. Look at what I was raised with. FDR, Truman, Eisenhower. This was a segment of society that was different than me. Highly educated, proven record, movers and shakers.
I guess I did have a twinge of concern about Reagan running because of his background. Movie Star? Well as is my wont, I did a little research. He was governor of California and had helped Los Angeles get out of debt. He was president of the screen actors’ guild for years. I didn't know what that was, but it sounded good. It sounded impressive. He turned out good too. Looking back I realize that he was a man of great patriotism, he was a Christian man. He wasn't a coward. He wasn't greedy. If you possess these traits, you don't have to be brilliant. Good men are blessed and the nations under them are blessed. The good book says so. I loved JFK and have no complaint about his tenure as president. With Nixon, and Johnson, things were a little off center, but then the hippy movement ruled. The Age of Aquarius, baby boomers and peace nicks. What did I know? I was busy with my own world of rearing children, being a wife and mother. I knew I was the ‘Establishment’—still am and proud of it. When establishment goes and the Old Guard dies off, it will be a whole different world.
I look at the Carter years, the Clinton years, and ask myself how I could have ever guessed. We had George Bush, Sr. thrown in there and hey, he was Old Guard. I guess that I just had it in my head that at the very top were the creame de la creame. I could pick from any of these illustrious people and we were in good hands. But something happened, something insidious crept in. Something slick and something cunning. A man and a woman who decided they would turn this office of president into a thing of personal wealth and ambition, and never look back. They would surround themselves with others just like them. They could do anything, say anything, just as long as it meant personal gain. They would always be for sale to the highest bidder and the administration they appointed would resemble those that surrounded Hitler at his prime. The Goerings, the Himmlers, and Eichmanns. People of low degree. People like John Murtha. It will take Hugo Chavez one day to stop the protest. His army will shoot into the crowd to kill. He won't have to do so the second time. Hugo Chavez did it in 2002 and he will again. Hillary Clinton intends to be president. She and Bill intend to take us all the way. Listen to her. She is preaching Socialism, Communism. As I said Hillary intends to do it, she and Bill, whatever it takes!
