Thursday, May 3rd, is the National Day of Prayer. Greg and I are honored to be a part of this year's Bible Marathon that has been taking place in Lovington, an annual event that leads up to the National Prayer Day. In particular, we give a special thanks to John and Pam Jones for taking up the cross this year and donating so much time and effort to its cause. In the past, it has been one of my best friend's parents who has handled the organizational end, but due to health problems, they weren't able to this year.
We began at 9:oo PM Sunday night reading God's Word out loud over the mike that is set up in front of the Courthouse. Sign up times are 15 minutes, but many readers take several blocks of time. The Bible will be read through at least once (usually more) by tomorrow morning. At first, readers are hesitant to sign up because most of us don't like reading out loud, but it is so powerful and rewarding (I love the nighttime) that we always come back for more. No doubt, the Old Testament names have been heavily mispronounced by all of us, but we just stumble on through. It's wonderful, and as Pam said, "We didn't want to give this up here. You know how government is, they rarely give anything back once it's disappeared!"
She's right, especially on this.

This is so wonderful. I talked with some people about this at the courthouse I work in. They all were inspired to hear that Lovington does this. Thank you, De'on and Greg, for your prayers.
