Lisa's Christmas Jewell Bits: "Froehliche Weihnachten"‏

by Lisa Jewell

6 Days Before Christmas.... Wow, not long, in fact I’m sure things are about to start happening, with deliveries for this and that. Hope the UPS is knocking on the door lots, so as everyone’s gift will arrive. Will you be wrapping just before you attend any function? Seems I am wrapping till the last minute. I hate that too…I always tell myself every year that I am gonna be done early so I can sit and enjoy the peace of it all. Tip: enjoy your tree with all the presents and life. It is a sad feeling when the tree is bare without all the different sizes and colors.... Speaking of trees, I inherited a small 2-foot Christmas tree from a very dear friend that has gone on. Christmas was always special to us. I miss that too. This tree has been put up every Christmas on a table since he has been gone. I thought this year that it needed some thing, it looks sort of old and tattered. I kinda hated to change it but I knew he would have loved my idea. I thought why not research other places Christmas’ (mind you I work on about 15 to 20 minutes, so I didn’t do too much searching.) I came up with Germany, why I do not know. Also this is back around the 1600’s to 1800’s. They say they think the Christmas tree originated in Germany. The mother usually would decorate the tree on Christmas Eve, while usually the father would entertain the kids in another room. They would use glass-blown ornaments and tinsel. They used candles for lighting. They hung candy, nuts and toys, cookies, and fruits on it also. When it was done then everyone would gather in and read” The Christmas Story” and open gifts and sing carols. They didn’t use lumps of coal for the naughty ones they filled their shoes with twigs. They stated that in the 1600’s they would write down their sins and St. Nicholas would take them away. Hint: I am going to make German Spice Bars--- (Lebkuchen), for a dessert, so as we get a taste of their traditions....De’on didn’t understand about new growth from the 7 Days Before Christmas post. Sorry, it has to do with a touch up for your hair. Looking like you have never grayed. Beautiful hair, from a bottle. Tip: get rest so as the dark circles won’t match your new growth.

Lisa that is the way the Germans do their tree. Our best friends in California were German Jack and Julie and the other were Jewish. At any rate I grew up around the customs of these people. So far you have never got the Fridg done so you are behind girl....Love MOM
